Kedah Umno to back polls charge

ALOR SETAR: Kedah Umno leaders should honour their promise not to sabotage the party if they are not fielded in the general election.
Kedah Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Hanipah said they had made this promise during a meeting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, and should keep it.
“Winning the 13th general election is crucial for us, thus let us put aside any differences that we may have. We must stand united to strengthen the party,’’ he said yesterday.
The meeting with Dr Mahathir was held on Sunday before the former prime minister launched the Kedah Barisan Nasional election machinery.
Meanwhile, former Kedah mentri besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid has accused the PAS-led state government of shifting the blame to a private company for its failure to continue with the Sungai Limau Hydrocarbon Hub (Sulihh) project.
He said the state should take responsibility for their failure to run the project which was initiated by the Barisan government and could have brought huge revenue.
“In our original plan, we had proposed to build the oil refinery on land but the PAS-led state government had wanted to reclaim the sea for this purpose.
“This involved huge costs and now they have no money to do it,” he said after chairing the Muda Agriculture Development Authority (Mada) board of directors meeting yesterday.
